Irvinestown
Co.Fermanagh Thursday My Dear Nora, A very happy Birthday and many happy returns! You are getting ‘old’ now! So between old age and heavy weight you sure must be a beauty! How are you getting on up there at all? According to reports you seem to be improving marvellously so we must see about getting all the doors around Irvinestown enlarged. Gerry Shutt won’t have a look in with you! Well tha latest news is that Maisie went off yesterday to Omagh for two days holidays. She is to be back on Saturday. She is going to stay in Campbells where there is some orphanage friend of hers working. This one wrote to her and asked her down for a few days (if you can believe her) and Maisie says she never asked to be invited. It will be interesting to see if there is anything more in it than just holidays. (V-Days moyah!) and what do you know Kevin came home last night for V-days too and he is staying until Mon. So needless to say mum and I are very busy; and Kevin brought a case of soiled clothes home to be washed thinking Maisie was here. So we weren’t going to start to wash shirts etc. and I get Mollie Fitzgerald to come down tonight and wash and she can do the ironing tomorrow evening. Kevin is just putting the house under him!
Mum and I are going up to see Malachy on Monday. We were having awful trouble (collecting) getting a connection from Clones so we phoned up that station and the Station Master (a decent gentleman) told me that if we came on Mon he would put us on a cattle train. This will get us into Monaghan two hours earlier. Gerry Broadbin is in the town and his shows I believe are shocking! Des goes nearly every night – ‘Going My Way’ Love on the Dole’ Keys of the Kingdom’ (Copyright of Ireland!!!) are among the star shows, not to mention ‘The Informer’. It is packed every night too. They had a row last night among themselves too, and one of the girls huffed and went to the pictures! /Gerry is chief comedian, musician, dancer and ringer! Phew!!
Dan McCrossan is married and himself and the wife are living in Ramsey’s! Marnie Spratt and her husband are living out at Castle Archdale. Hard times on the married couples! Well I’m having a shocking time this week with Aulds. He is preparing for a concert in Enniskillen, and he was looking for you, to put him over a few songs. So unfortunately Mum said I’d do it, and in he comes nearly every night for about an hour! Well if I don’t be fed up with him! Thank God the concert is on Tuesday. Mrs Sergeant is singing in it too. I discovered it is an Orange Lodge affair, so of course I’ll not go. Kevin bought me a record of the Fantaisie Impromptu (Chopin) played by Louis Kentner and it is gorgeous. We got the gramophone fixed fairly well and it is great.
Sergeant Ryan caught the bar open at 9.20 tonight and he was raging. He gave mum a caution and said she would get no more chances! I’m writing this in the kitchen and it is packed with kids and I don’t know what I’m saying. If it does not make sense; you can supply it! Cheerio for now and again a very happy birthday. will see you soon. Love Eileen Frank Aulds was a local RUC man (a good singer) and Mrs Sergeant is Rosalie Aiken, sister of Acheson. |
