Malachy Mahon was the twelth child of Joseph Senior and the youngest of the family. He went to St. McCartan's College in Monaghan as a boarder, UCD to take a BA and then St/ Mary's Teaching College in Belfast. Apart from these years and a short stint in some Fermanagh Primary Schools he lived all his life in Irvinestown becoming the first Headmaster in the new St. Mary's Secondary School in the town where he taught many of the children of the town. Malachy captained Irvinestown in the senior county championship in 1952, played centre-half-back for Fermanagh and became a referee; he was also Fermanagh county secretary, president of the Ulster Council, and vice-president of the GAA from 1974-79. Along with many other committees he was a long-serving member of Irvinestown Fairs and Markets Trustees set up 1908 of which his father was one of the founding members (The fourteen trustees - seven Catholic, three Church of Ireland, two Presbyterian and two Methodists - are responsible for developing the local community, attracting investment and even built a generator to bring electricity to Irvinestown in late 1920s. Malachy married Brenda McManus from Enniskillen and they had 5 children, Tiernach, Hugh, Fionnuala, Niamh and Caitríona He retired to Rossbeg in Donegal where Brenda still lives.
